Support by fostering our dogs until adoption

Fostering is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have because you are saving a life and you get to transform and prepare the rescued dog for his new life and forever home!

By fostering you're freeing up a spot in the shelter which helps save another dog in need; you are giving the rescued dog the time he needs to decompress; and most importantly you are saving a life. Fosters provide care and a loving home for the dogs that we rescue and help them get ready for their forever homes. Rescue will help match you with a dog that suits your lifestyle and home. First-time fosters can get their feet wet with “easier” dogs and once you become more experienced foster you can opt to foster difficult cases (health wise, behavior wise or age wise). No matter what kind of dogs you foster, all foster homes provide valuable service and your relationship with the dog is key information in helping find it forever home.

Foster FAQs:

How do I know if I am ready to Foster a Dog?

If you answer yes to one or more of the below questions, you are more than likely ready to foster a dog:

  • Do you want to help transform and prepare a rescued dog for his forever home and help a family find the right dog for their home?

  • Have you been thinking about getting a dog but you’re not sure you’re ready for the lifelong emotional and financial commitment and you want to get some practice while helping dogs in need?

  • Do you want to give your current dog some companionship?

Can I be a dog foster parent?

Yes! Any adult with enough time on a daily basis, unconditional love and care towards dogs, and a house to accommodate dogs can be a dog foster parent.

What types of dogs need foster care?

Few examples of our rescued dogs are: Adult dogs, Underage puppies, Nursing dogs, Ill or injured dogs that may need regular medication or medical attention, and Senior dogs.

What pet care supplies will I need?

Poochie’s Pet Rescue provides all items needed to care for your foster pet including food, monthly preventatives, any prescribed medications, and all vet care expenses.

What will be my responsibilities as a foster?

We request our fosters to provide a loving caring home to our rescued dogs, follow all guidelines for feeding and medications as provided by the Poochie’s staff, alert us if any medical or behavioral changes in your foster dog, and keep the scheduled doctor appointments if applicable.

How long do I need to foster?

The length of foster care varies depending on the needs of the dog and how soon he gets adopted.

What if I fall in love with my foster dog? Can I keep the dog?

We would love for your foster dog to find its forever home with a family it already knows … yours. Remember that some dogs may already have a home lined up before you take them to foster care. Foster parents who adopt need to complete all adoption paperwork and fees may be included.
